Did I dare to open my eyes? I could smell what, something like a sweet coconut, heavy and pungent. The whooshing wind had stilled and I felt weightless as if I were floating. I could hear my heart thumping in my head and chest. Warmth suddenly flows towards me, I reach out, open my eyes and I can’t see.

The warmth of the room seeped upwards enveloping them. The door remained open, it began to rain, heavy droplets smacking the flagstone floor. The freshness of the water mingled with the heat of the room, they looked outside and watched the leaden sky. A sense of foreboding was etched on each of their faces. They sat down at the table and waited.

The spout from the teapot which they had grown up with was missing. The cups and saucers were cracked and the tea leaves scattered across the table. Grandma’s black handbag lay against her black patent shoes, her black lace dress was sewn across the stone floor.
